Registration

The AICA purebred herdbook is open to animals of 31/32 Charolais breeding. Within the purebred registry, special prefixes are available – Full French, American French, Verified Polled and Red Factor. All must meet certain criteria.
Both dam and sire must be registered with AICA.
Each calf must be marked with a permanent ID number - any set of numbers permanently marked on the animal. It may include letters but must include numbers. Typically this is a tattoo in the ear.
Purebred animal’s body color must be white, light cream or light straw. Nose color must be white.
Signatures are required on animals you do not own, for example, AI sires and donor dams.
Red factor animals will be registered in the Red Herdbook. Any calf red in color or out of a red parent must be registered in the Red Factor book.
Purebred Charolais papers are blue in color

AICA RECORDATION OF FOUNDATION ANIMALS INTO THE CROSS CHAROLAIS HERDBOOK
Up-breeding to purebred status can be accomplished in five crosses when starting with a purebred Charolais bull or female. Only female calves from a first cross are eligible for recordation. The herd book is closed to recordation of animals less than 1/2 Charolais. The foundation animal may be of any beef or dairy breed or a cross of breeds.
One parent must be registered as purebred with AICA or both parents may be recorded as at least ½ blood animals with AICA.
Each calf must be marked with a permanent ID number - any set of numbers permanently marked on the animal. It may include letters but must include numbers. Typically this is a tattoo in the ear.
Animal may be any color with the exception of Black. Black animals are not eligible for recordation.
Signatures are required on any parent registered with AICA.
½ blood females are eligible for recordation in the Cross Charolais herdbook. ½ blood bulls are eligible for recordation in the “Percentage” Herd Book. (see next section).
Cross Charolais papers are Yellow in color.

The Percentage Charolais Herdbook is open to animals of at least ½ Charolais breeding. Animals can be recorded if either their sire or dam is purebred registered Charolais of if both their sire and dam are recorded Charolais (1/2 blood or higher).
Each calf must be marked with a permanent ID number - any set of numbers permanently marked on the animal. It may include letters but must include numbers. Typically this is a tattoo in the ear.
Animals can be any color with the exception of black. Black Cattle will not be recorded.
Any progeny out of these animals must be registered in the Percentage Charolais division.
½ blood bulls and steers will be recorded in the Percentage Charolais division.
Percentage Charolais papers are Gray in color.

Purebred animals subject to to color disqualifications but otherwise eligible for registration in the Purebred Registry shall be registered in the Colored Division, with the exception of black. Black animals are not eligible for recordation in the Colored division.

Animals shall be considered purebred, not less than 31/32 Charolais blood. All other purebred rules apply.
Progeny of animals registered in the Colored division shall be registered only in the Colored division regardless of color, with the exception of Black.
Colored Charolais papers are red in color.

AICA is the official registry for Charbray cattle. To be eligible for registration in the Charbray Division Registry, animals must conform to the following basic rule: A Purebred Charbray can be 5/8 to 13/16 Charolais and 3/8 to 3/16 Bos Indicus.
The progeny resulting from the mating of two previously Registered Charbray will be considered as Purebred Charbray.
Charbray cattle are eligible for enrollment into AICA's performance programs using the same forms and fees structure as Charolais cattle.

Recordation in Charbray-Cross Record
Animals eligible for recordation in the Charbray-Cross Record of the Association are those male progeny from1/4 but less than 5/8 Charolais resulting from original mating of registered Charolais Bos indicus cos or bulls, and female progeny of the same percentage resulting from mating of registered or recorded Charolais and registered Charbray.
